Want to Use Insurance?

Lactation coverage can vary widely, even within the same insurance company. But don’t worry — I’ll walk you through it.

When you reach out, I’ll help you:

Understand what’s covered — and what to expect

This step saves time, avoids confusion, and helps you get the support and coverage you deserve.

Plans That May Be Covered

If your insurance includes one of these plan types, there’s a good chance coverage is available — but every plan must still be verified individually:

Aetna / Meritain
• PPO, POS, OAP
• Some Select and subsidiary plans

Anthem
• PPO (outside of PPO Prudent Buyer)

Blue Cross Blue Shield
• PPO and EPO plans may be eligible

Cigna
• PPO, POS, OAP, EPO
• ❗ HMO plans need a referral
• Allegiance Cigna: Lactating parent usually covered; small fee for baby

Federal BCBS
• Basic, Standard, and PPO plans are usually covered

Premera
• PPO plans

Regence
• PPO plans

UnitedHealthcare / UMR / GEHA / Empire / Oxford
• PPO and EPO plans often eligible

Plans That Are Not Covered

These plans are not eligible for coverage:

Medicare
Medicaid (unless you're in California)
Tricare
• Most HMO plans

What If Your Insurance Doesn’t Cover It?

No worries — you still have affordable options:

  • Cash-pay, fixed-rate pricing is available with no surprise fees

  • Cash-pay families may be able to submit a superbill for insurance reimbursement — I’ll walk you through that process

  • I accept HSA/FSA cards, credit/debit cards, and provide simple, secure payment options

More Information on Insurance Reimbursement

Lactation care is a covered benefit—legally mandated by the Affordable Care Act.

If you are a private pay patient, you’ll receive a Superbill to submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement. While coverage varies by plan, most insurance companies do reimburse for lactation services partially or fully IF your insurance plan is under the Affordable Care Act.

I encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to understand what your specific plan includes.

You have the right to expert feeding support for both you and your baby. Don’t hesitate to advocate for the care you deserve.
